I've read and followed all the warnings over the years about not
lubricating those nylon gears in the Drake PTO drive. Imagine my
surprise when I opened up my R7A and saw lube on the gears! It looks
like some kind of white grease, but I can't tell if it's Lithium or
not.

This rig appears to be a high serial number R7A, and is fitted with
only the standard "options" as supplied by Drake. It is absolutely
pristine inside, it looks like no one has been into it since it left
the factory. It was a one-owner radio, and according to the family it
came from, the owner "didn't use it much" and it actually sat on the
shelf unused most of it's life. Based on my observations, I believe
this to be true. My assumption is that the gears were greased by Drake
at the factory. The PTO is smooth and silky, with no sign of swelling
or binding of the gears.

So what kind of lube did they use?
