Hard to make an Subjective analysis (is that an oxymoron?) but my R4a will nearly drive you back at loud volumes using the stock speaker. Have you tried a different speaker? Also..check and perhaps burnish the shorting contact at the earphone jack on the front panel. a little corrosion there directly affects the output to the speaker. How does it sound with low impedence headphoness? It should be able to make your ears bleed :)

Look for the simple stuff first. Tube? check tube voltages to reveal abnormaL operation.

Others will add to this I'm sure.

Hi Drake people

I have a R4A 11 tube receiver that I have referbed last year and it works great.

I have put all new caps in, aligned and so forth.

I have never been around any other drakes except my TR-3 to compare it to.

It has low volume. It is ok but not as loud as I think it should be able to go.

Is this normal. It is about 1/3 the volume compared to my TR-3?

Thanks for any help
