Hi All I have a nice R-4B that works and am now trying to get it perfect. I have a couple of questions that I think you guys know the answers to.
1. What is the voltage that should be athe collector of Q6 the BFO. I think based on looking at other Drake schematics that it should be 10 volts but there is no mention of this in manual anywhere. I am seeing about 11.6 volts here, is this an issue that I need to worry about? 2. In the alignment section of the manual section 6.4.6 it asks you to plug in a 12.6Mhz crystal and I don't have one of those. Is there another way to do this step without having that crystal? I have an HP8640B rock solid signal generator. 3. My R-4b does have one problem and that is that the audio sounds hollow when I tune in CW signals. Putting a scope on the audio out the trace looks just fine. So am mystified by this. Any ideas?? Have replaced C173, C90, C11, C192 and C176 already. 4. The noise blanker appears dead, absolutely no change in sound at all when I turn it on. Have not yet begun to trouble shoot that section. Any advice on the Noise Blanker would be great.
