IF there IS a shorting plug inserted, there are a set of switch contacts and a bit of wiring that could give the same results, Yet another possibility is that the center contact of the chassis mount jack is spread out where it's not making contact. Last but not least, is your "shorting plug" REALLY shorted?? :-)
