Carl -

I've been corrected on the '5 PTO. I wonder how the much improved stability of the '5 is accomplished.?

Aside from the lubed nylon gear phenomenon, the PTO "feel" is determined by the bearing lube (right behind the front wall of the gearbox), the lube on the lead screw surface, and the bearing pressure adjustment at the rear of the lead screw.

The surge protection device is a Gas Discharge element with a 90V breakdown that is readily available item from Mouser and others. One currently available one is Mouser 871-A81-C90X. It is a wire lead device, and is connected across the RF Choke that is already there from the EXT ANT jack to the ground terminal of the KEY jack.

The lever is on the '7 also, but it is not easy to get to. Like most
everything else, it's UNDER the DR-7 board.

Hi Garey,
Well I'm going in sooner or later as I think I have found a brand new OEM Aux 7 board, mine does not have one (even though it was supposed to) The seller made up some financial difference btw.. Enough to purchase some premade modules. The 7 is slightly our of mechanical adjustment on the pto and its stiff as compared with my TR4c, and old R4 which I had cleaned up...the TR5 is a piece of silk. Odd additional question for you...Written up differences by Wb4HFN in re TR7 TR7A Pg 3 which I was wondering if you knew anything about. "A surge protection device has been added to the receive antenna input to provide additional protection from static discharges from lightning."
Think I could figure the above out from a TR7A schematic /
Thanks again, 73 Carl wd8nhk
