Bob, I am going to go out on a limb and make a guess. I believe that in the later days, the tube manufactures did what I call "joining" of tube models. That is the 6JB6 and other tubes with similar/equal specs were produced and labeled for which ever model was being made that day. So it might be that you have a 6JB6 which is kind of a 6LQ6/6JE6. Within reason the 6JE6 and 6JB6 are the exact same tube, with the 6JE6 being taller and higher powered.
6JB6 vs 6JE6 tube seated height 3.170 vs 3.75 inches tall. In TV sets the height and higher power ratings would not make any difference on a 6JB6. In a set needing the higher powered tube, the only down side is that there is not quite as much surface area to dissipate the heat on a "joined" 6JE6. OTOH tubes were past technology. If you bought a new TV because the tubes kept going out, that was good for profits too. 73, Ron WD8SBB --- On Sun, 12/27/09, Robert Ladden <[email protected]> wrote: > From: Robert Ladden <[email protected]> > Subject: [Drakelist] Sylvania 6JB6s Too Tall? > To: "Drakelist" <[email protected]> > Date: Sunday, December 27, 2009, 8:39 PM > I have > a pair of Sylvania 6JB6A tubes, stamped Sylvania and made in > USA in yellow, that are a quarter-inch taller than any other > 6JB6 that I have seen.
