[Drakelist] R7 receiver

I see a R7 listed on Ebay....had what is listed as a "FCC" mod....a 
dimmer control added below bandswitch knob. Description states it dims 
panel lights ( I would assume vfo dial & meter).
Is this something Drake did at factory to R7's ( never saw one 
before),or is it a mod someone did after they bought it?
