You can try Windex and cotton swabs but more often then not you will rub off 
some of the white paint. Best thing is white enamel applied with a thin brush, 
then just before it dries, wipe off any excess outside of the groove with a rag 
moistened with paint thinner. The knobs were originally painted.
White laquer sticks also work but is much harder to do.
