Thanks for all the help with the 'smoked' transformer. I DID find a
replacement and have it installed. I am still having power issues.
Fuse blows on power up. I isolated it to the 250VCT side. When I connect the
RED wires, the fuse blows. I removed all wires from the R-4C PS board and was
planning to re-connect 1 at a time to isolate the 'short'. I suspect I will be
going through alot of fuses to figure out which wire is the actual culpret.
Other than isolatin like this - any typical culprits or suggestions?
The hold up is that I nicked the EP487 in the process with the soldering iron.
Its probably OK - but I would like to fix it. I have a LM7812 (L7812CV) in my
hand and can do the power supply mod - but I would rather find a suitable
replacement transistor to get the radio to factory spec prior to the mod. What
will replace a EP487? Is there anything special about this chip?
As far as progress, I have replace the electrolytics in the PS board and the
muti-sections on the chasis with individual cans (isolated from the original
and underneath the chasis)
