Maybe.  You can remove the vernier flush it with Gunk or other degreaser, 
repeatedly, like 5-10 times.  Then, BEFORE reinstalling it, see if it slips "by 
itself".  If not, then get some wide temperature range silicon lubricant, and 
apply it to the internals of the mechanism.  Then reinstall it.


If that doesn't work, and it is a 50-50 proposition, then replace the vernier 
drive.  Shop for price, they vary between $10-40 approximately.  I've replaced 
drives on both L4Bs and L7s, sort of an add-on when I rebuilt the power 
supplies, hi hi.
