Fellow Drake enthusiasts,

Thanks for the posted and private comments regarding the L7. I appreciate all
of them. Here's what I found.

The 160 meter input coil had a mica capacitor resting against the chassis; not
a major issue necessarily.
PC style green capacitor in the output circuit had one side resting against the
shaft of a sheet metal screw; a problem waiting to happen.
One 3-500Z filament pin had desoldered and the other tube was gassy.

My guesstimate is that one tube failed, and then the other was loaded
"normally" but it was trying to do the job of both tubes and will degrade
rapidly. Unlike, the L4 and L4B, you can't see the tubes in the L7 or L75 for
that matter. Hence, when a situation like this occurs, it isn't always
detected in a timely manner.

Thanks again for your comments. Hope to QSO with you on the Drake Technical
Net, the Drake and Antique Tube Gear Net, and the Drake Forum at the 2010
Hamvention.

73,

Evan, K9SQG
