Robert, I will take a stab at question #2 - the IF Crystal for CW. The TR-4Cw came with a third position on the Sideband switch. That position gives you the 500 Hz crystal for CW reception. On xmit you need to advance the gain a bit more for the same plate current.
If you want an even narrower filter, then I'd go for an R-4something that provides for 250 Hz, and use it with the TR-4CW. That will give you the better selectivity on reception and RIT!!!! Plus you have the variable bandwidth - Oh what fun! The TR-4C was designed to be used with other receivers, specifically the R-4 anys. It makes for an awesome deskful. 73, Kris (KA2OIG) Merschrod 123 Warren Road Ithaca, NY 14850 www.merschrod.net ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Sisco To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, April 04, 2010 2:16 PM Subject: [Drakelist] 6HS6 tube source? TR4CW on CW? Dear Drakies, 1) I had the bright idea to replace the tubes in my R4B. Now I can not zero or calibrate the S-meter. I was unable to find two 6HS6 tubes. I suspect this has thrown the S-meter bridge out of balance. It worked fine with the weak tubes. Where can I buy a set of 6HS6 tubes? 2) I have a TR4CW. I was tricked into buying it, when I thought the CW stood for morse code. I do not operate SSB. Has someone already figured out how to change the IF crystal filter for a narrow bandwidth for CW? What center frequency do I need to use? I can always restore the TR4CW to original, should the need arise. In the mean time I will be using an external receiver with selectable bandwidths. 3) I see there is a RIT modification for the TR4CW. Does someone have a reprint of that article?
