try Norcomm model NC 101.  Have one on the UV3 and works fine.
 
About the size of a small postage stamp for about $ 35 shipped.  It is good
for one sub audible tone only, adjustable.

I can't remember the name of the company, but there was available a 3rd
party tone-generator board that you could put in many such transceivers.

I have a tr-22c and it has crystals, it is a great portable rig, but the
stupid thing does not have a tone generator so won't work on but 3 repeaters
here... and right now it is my only radio... ugh...
