I discovered my T4XB has a lot of distortion on AM.
Its especially noticable as "spitty" highs and there is some
splattering and it sounds "clippy". Its not overmodulation.
The voltages at the 6AU6A modulator are close to those
specified. Is this a common problem, if it is perhaps
someone could save me some tail chasing.
Also, a couple of days ago a mysterious problem showed
up in my R4B. When the mute is on for any length of time
(several seconds or more) the neon indicator lamp won't come
on again. The mute circuit itself seems to work OK. When the
problem happens I get a higher than normal voltage across
the leads to the lamp on the circuit board. That sounds like
the lamp is going open. Has anyone experienced this before?
I will try to find a replacement lamp but I am wondering how
it could be intermittant in this particular way. Turning the
receiver off for a minute or two will light the lamp but
does not actually fix the problem.
