Unique supplemental service information CDs available for the Drake
TR-4, TR-4C/Cw/CwRIT, B and C
Lines, 2-C / 2-NT and the 2-B receiver.
High resolution color photos of the under chassis and individual PC
boards of each unit, with all
parts identified and keyed to a parts list make it easy to locate
any component. No more trying to
trace wires through bundles, etc. This information is not
available elsewhere and really makes a
difference in servicing these units.
These CDs are NOT just scans of the original manuals that were
included with the equipment when new.
High resolution scans of the original manuals ARE on the CDs,
along with scans of manuals for

I'm sick of working on this MN4C with B1000, life is too short. It
worked fine until it didn't and can't seem to identify what the
problem is. Make an offer offlist if interested before I put it on

One of my L4Bs could use a new cabinet since a previous owner had
dented part of the cabinet and it doesn't lend itself to
straightening due to the location. I could use primarily the bottom
but the top could be replaced as well. If you have one or both, I
would be interested in hearing from you.
Also, could use those metal rails that are used to mount the
capacitor boards to the power supply sides. I have plenty of new
diode boards, capacitors, diodes, etc. but could use those rails.
Enjoy those Drakes and don't forget the Drake HF nets.

Took my TR7 that was in temp controlled storage for about one year and
found I have no receive. Radio worked 100% when put away in closet.
TX works fine,all modes,full output. I get meter deflection when I
rotate RF gain control .
I have very weak audio of TX signals,no meter deflection when a strong
signal ( compared to another recvr same antenna)
Filter selection works,as you cab hear bandwidth narrow with narrow
filter. PBT works good also.
I removed relay & cleaned contacts to no avail.
All voltages at 10 volts or slightly lower on reg. board.
Any thoughts?

Make sure there is continuity between the 'EXT RCVR' J4 to 'EXT ANT'
jacks. If not, add a short jumper cable.

Paul -
Sounds like the dreaded 'TR-7 Disease'! :-) Multiple, seemingly
unrelated problems from a rig that 'worked 100% when put away'.
Easiest fix is to just reseat all cards and connectors. Lift each
card
up slightly and push back down. You MAY get away with just the
rearmost
2nd IF/AF board since at least two of your symptoms are
indications. A
little DeoxIT will help a little, but is a LOT more work!
Personally, I
don't think the improvement is worth the work. I DeoxIT any card that
is removed for other reasons, but not it a case like this.
There just isn't enough voltage or current in these modern (read solid
state) radios to break through even the slightest corrosion on
contacts. Gold plated contacts throughout would help, but was/is not
cost competitive. For reliability, SS gear should have the absolute
minimum number of interconnects. Not having ANY voltage on these,
especially the ones with dissimilar metal to metal contact, forms a
nice
layer of insulation even in ideal storage conditions.

I had an audio problem about a year agowith my TR-7, where the
audio would just
fade out.? My first thought was the audio amp chip went out, but I
went ahead
and pulled all the boards, deoxit each pin, and reinstalled the
boards.? also, I
deoxited all of the plugs, etc. to the digital readout board, etc.?
This solved
everything, including an intermittent digital display problem I had
for years.?

The TR7 is alive and well !!
Thanks for all the responses....
Here's the deal....I removed all the boards ,cleaned & de-ox-ed all
the
terminals......still dead
As I was head scratching I got an email reply that told me check to
see
if the jumper was in between the two RCA jacks ( EXT ANT / EXT RCVR)
and then it hit me like a ton o' bricks....I had this TR7 lashed up
with
an R7 and there was no jumper between two jacks...........seems my
memory isn't what it used to be!
I had completely forgot about removing the jumper,and when it didn't
receive,I went into "repair mode" and overlooked the obvious!
Again,thanks to the list for all the great help!!
