Hi CArl:

I think it is important for the long term operation , to add a small amount of Deoxit at each connector pin..both the card connectors and the small, jumper cable connections. Simple re-seating will fix it in many cases but if you don't treat with the Deoxit, the same mechanism can cause it to fail again..same or different place. For the TR7 card connectors and also the (STD100) type that is used by HP, Yaesue, etc, my procedure is to remove the connector or card, clean both parts as well as I can with a brush and chamois swab using 99% isopropyl alcohol. THis is to remove as much corrosion debris or powder as possible, then a very small application of Deoxit from the needle bottle. Basically just a wipe of the needle end along the contact pin to apply a stripe of fluid--amounts to less than a drop on each pin. Then install connector, remove it and install it one more time.

Of course, as the guys pointed out during my recent issue with my TR7 and its frequency problem, it could be alignment induced..But on mine, the rig actually changed frequency, yours is just the display.

Be sure to clean the NORM/EXTERNAL counter switch to be sure it isn't getting flaky on the input of the counter.

Dont forget to re-seat those little coax fittings with jumpers.

Well here I go again.
TR7 suddenly decides to not hold the digital frequency readout...ERGO 7.258 for about 5 seconds then goes nuts for 6.9.. to 7.250's its fast back and forth.. Audio on the received station is just fine, stays put. It was Italy and prior to that Panama...nice day for it. Worked the band switch in between them and it seemed to stabilize for while. Hate to keep it operating if a fault exists, so shut er down. In any case tomorrow I will start reseating boards to start unless someone has a better idea. About two months ago it was loss of audio, and reseating the audio board resolved that...thank you Garey. Problem was at the time I was trying to work someone who's call was Chile...never heard one before. Why when I am trying to work something good...................................
