Regarding T-4, T-4X, T-4XB operation: THE FOLLOWING IS JUST MY PERSONAL
OPINION, not necessarily based on any "facts":

Owing to the relatively high cost of replacement tubes I'm sure that
some owners of the T-4(any) transmitters are probably inclined to keep the
power to less than full rated output in order to prolong tube life. In this
regard, I believe that the transmitter operates very comfortably &
predictably at a measured output of around 50 watts on CW. At this output
power
the signal level is only 3 dB below that of a 100-watt transmitter (hardly
noticeable to the receiving operator), plate current is in the range of
180-200 mA, and tube life should be reasonably prolonged vis a vis operating
at
maximum output especially if you have installed a small fan to pull air
through the PA cage. You *CAN* run less power, but as Garey has pointed out
some anomalies are exaggerated at very low output levels so I would be
disinclined to drop it below 30 watts or so.

My T-4X is very happy at 50 watts output and I'm heard about as well
as when running the modern rig at a full 100 watts.....at least, I've had no
real complaints.

Again, just my opinion and not based on any real "facts."

73 and Happy New Year to everyone on this GREAT list!

    Paul, K4MSG
