Go for it!
I have a Drake R-4C with every Sherwood mod (installed but Rob's guy) and it is super! It is so good that when I set it next to my Ten-Tec Orion II and do A/B testing...for most situations it is equivelant. There is an occational time when the fancy featues of the Orion II wins...but not often.

That's saying a lot The Orion II is a very high end contest radio.
Of course, there are lots of bells & whistles on the Orion II that are not in a Drake C line...but I really do enjoy both environments.

Subject: [Drakelist] Mods.

This should start a healthy discussion! I want to ask about mods (Sherwood and other for the R4c). I am thinking of putting "the mods" in an R4c as most of the comments on them are favorable. I have looked at the Sherwood page several times. Although most of the kits (caps,ps, audio and 3rd mixer) are well explained, the filters are not. Sherwood mentions two sideband filters and the relay/switching boards, but it is not clear if those are intended to replace the stock sideband filters or are actual roofing filters. Are these equivalent to the Inrad GUF-1,2 set up? Can the GUF filters be switched in/out?

Recomendations on all of the "mods/ mod. kits" would be appeiceiated!
