Why would feed-thru caps fail or be of concern? I don't think I've ever seen
any feed-thru caps fail anywhere I have ever seen them. I've have seen broken
ones or cracked ones but this was due to mechanical stress.

Lee,

You might want to consider pulling the feed thru caps from the RF
deck while your doing your up-grades. Yours are more than likely 30+
years old and any drop-in replacements (if you can find 'em) probably
are too. Been there a couple of times in the last several years. I
think it was Garey that suggested just running the filament xfmr
directly to the choke with by-pass caps to ground. The amp has been
working great and running cool ever since, and I haven't had to hunt
for NOS caps.
