Hi all My Dad (K8ZID) and I are in the process of restoring a TR4C. It is coming along very well and operates perfectly. We have a "parts rig" so no shortage of spares and replacements so far.
Now it hears great, makes full power on all bands, operates like a dream except that 40 meters is about 30KHz off frequency. It calibrates at about 7030 on 40 but on all other bands is right on the money. The only way I could imagine this could happen would be a faulty 40 meter heterodyne crystal. So, having a ready replacement from the parts rig, I swapped them. Same symptom! I have not put a frequency counter on the heterodyne oscillator but it is the only thing I can imagine that could cause this problem. What are the chances that TWO crystals would be that far off frequency? Just looking for some guidance..... anyone ever see this before? Am I missing something really stupid? Thanks for any advice.
