I've never met Ray Grenier even though I spent alot of time at AES. While in college in the 70's, we used to go to AES on Friday afternoons after class and basically be a big pain in the butt to the staff. They hated us showing up because we'd spent several hours at the store looking over each piece of equipment, turning all the knobs and dials, trying out radios. Ah the good ole days.
The picture I'm thinking about was in the 1972 or 73 QST or AES catalog. I don't think ole Ray had the heavy black glasses in that picture. 73, Scott WA9WFA
