That's a great idea, and one that I've considered in the past myself. Maybe I'm
just lazy or a tightwad, but I've settled on NTC inrush limiters as discussed
here before. They are cheaper than a decent relay, even easier to install, and
do a nice job of saving the switch. Proper arc supression across the switch
contacts wouldn't hurt either, but I haven't gotten around to that yet.

Of course, the ultimate in quick and easy is to use a switched power strip to
turn the radios on and off.
