I would reconsider using a stereo jack for the front panel "hole filling" unless you are planning to keep the receiver for your use. If you are going to sell the receiver after it is functioning correctly, the next owner may assume the jack is a standard mono jack and plug in a mono 1/4" plug. This will effectively short to chassis (ground) the "ring" connection of the jack. With the "ring" and "tip" connected together, the output of the audio amplifier will be shorted out!
Other than this warning, the idea of using a stereo jack is a good one especially in light of the number of stereo headsets available at very reasonable prices in the market.
