I saw an interview on one of the hardware sites with ati marketing / nvidia marketing side by side. I don't have a link anymore unfortunately. >From what he said (marketing admittedly, but he didn't say realtime shrek to oppose his competition ;) ati seem committed to supporting both d3d and opengl (he mentioned opengl 2.0 and id software) I guess if JC et al plan to release doom3 as they have q1/2/3, rtcw etc across platforms and unless they go 'direct to the metal' as he said in his famous plan he'd prefer, there'll be dri / mesa development. (In fact he has another interesting plan entry talking about doom3 on the 8500) It's like the "when will 8500 driver be ready/what's happening with it" is a FAQ, but personally I think "what extensions do you need to write to get, just for one example, doom3, to work on mesa / the 8500" is probably equally important to ask / work on / get permission / help from ati etc. There are probably similar extensions that someone could do now for the radeon, as obviously everyone isn't just playing q3 and rtcw with 3d. Like, much of what "adding tcl to the radeon driver" was really "adding lots of generic tnl stuff to mesa" to let you begin. There are similar parallels with drivers for things like the sblive, where existing linux audio apis simply don't (or at least didn't, I haven't looked for a while) have the facility for the features on the card, before you even worry too much about whether there's an open/closed driver that can use that functionality. -- Michael. _______________________________________________________________ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas -- http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm _______________________________________________ Dri-devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dri-devel
