I think this is the perfect example of "hard to get into". A person who
knows what he's doing, has documentation, hardware and motivation, and
_still_ finds it hard to actually get started at doing anything.

Yeah, you can't expect to get Doom 3 working overnight. But if there was 
some _simple_ way to get some very basic initial stuff working in a 
driver, that might make people more able to get into it.
