I've seen similarly pathetic PCI GART performance with newer chips on
Macs, but not with older chips (IIRC the M6 worked as expected, but not
M7 and M9; I thought this might be related to the L3 cache which was
added to PowerBooks at the same time). I basically see two possible
reasons:

      * There's something about newer ATI AGP cards which makes them
        perform very poorly with PCI GART
      * Our drivers do something which makes newer chips perform very
        poorly with PCI GART, be they AGP or PCI

The former wouldn't necessarily say anything about PCI cards, but I'm
not sure how to determine which it is (and what exactly the actual cause
is).
