I can't say what XFree will do, but I doubt they'd suddenly stop using Imake and jump on whatever we provide.
Rather, it'll mean that you can build the drivers either directly from a Mesa tree, or using the current method via an XFree86 or DRI cvs tree pointed at or containing a Mesa tree.
