That, and the kernel output mentioning lastclose.

Note that I don't mean a 'traditional' server abort. When e.g. the
dynamic loader hits an unresolved symbol, the X server process is
terminated immediately, so it doesn't get a chance to even try and
restore the console. So the symptoms of that can be very similar to a
'freeze'.

Did the X server process still exist at that time?
