Can you elaborate? At the time when you filed the report above, Option
"AGPMode" defaulted to "1"/"4" and Option "AGPFastWrite" defaulted to
"off", regardless of the xf86-video-ati branch.

If you're using the xf86-video-ati master branch, Option "AGPMode"
defaults to the value set up by firmware instead of the traditional
default "1"/"4", because there are some systems where the former works
but not the latter. Maybe it's the other way around for your system...
If so, can you check the AGP settings in the BIOS setup?

There was also a relatively short period of time when the master branch
defaulted to leave AGP fast writes enabled if firmware enabled them, but
Dave reverted that.

That's the idea, but it's not always clear which values are 'safe', see
above.
