Can't speak for MapR, but Amazon (EMR particular) has adopted Impala and also Spark, while it also offers Redshift.
I believe they're just allowing options for their customers and allow them to use EMR regardless which choice they want. Drill is still very much a live project and if you follow the dev mailing list and commits you can tell.
