The "horses" are the people who contribute ideas and/or code. It is fair to honor contributions from "outside" a company/project in a way that gives rights to decide to the contributors. It is not fair to take contributions but to decide only in the company/project. BTW: the oldest idea Sun did take from me (1987) was the idea of having a disk format utility that is not a stand alone boot but a user space program that runs while SunOS is running.
