Understood, I guess the question is, is Drizzle "mysql-based" or "a
community fork of MySQL?"
This is community. AKA this is what I call "Organic Open Source". Do I
expect that Sun/MySQL will support it?
Yep!
I certainly hope so. From comments so far I believe there is an
interest in doing so.
The latter has been used to describe it, which makes it *seem* more
of a drop-in replacement for MySQL.....I think you're right, it's
not the same subject matter (won't go in the log-bin) but we should
probably get our terminology straight lest we lead folks to believe
it's "a community fork of MySQL".
It is a fork, but to me that is the boring part. The more interesting
is how to make use of it.

Because even if we give qualifiers ("A community fork of MySQL that
has this and that and doesn't have that and this") they'll only read
the first part.

What do y'all think about a log-bin with speculation about that, or
more like a "we think it's going to happen sooner rather than later"
or "there are forks in active development..." without spilling the
beans?
Sure.
I really want people to realize though that this is about something
different, and not just a "we dislike the MySQL for Enerprise...".
That was not the point. The point, for me, is to tackle a problem
that I see with the tool that I need. Plenty of places will need 5.0
(and even 5.1 once it is GA'able), but they are not my target.
Cheers,

Note: Currently I work for The Pythian Group (http://
www.pythian.com/ ), a remote DBA firm, and consulting would
constitute a conflict of interest. However, I do recommend our
work, and if you're looking for DBA work (I do MySQL work, but they
have great Oracle and SQL Server DBAs too) right now, whether you
need a few hours a week, or someone fulltime while you continue a
job search.
I have a webpage with tips on how to find a DBA:
http://sheeri.net/how-to-find-a-dba/
I can recommend http://www.toomanyconnections.com as a good site to
find MySQL (and Oracle) DBAs.
If you're looking for web design, I recommend the small business my
husband works for, http://www.digital-loom.com
I regret that I have no other information for any other type of
position, including developer, programmer and systems administrator.
