converting XML to a delimited format is pretty trivial. And from what I've seen (sadly), most people aren't doing conversions, but storing the XML text in the db. (note that my experience is with homegrown apps, it's possible that there are apps that actually do an XML<->db conversion, or that it's done in middleware/an ORM layer....as a DBA I don't really see if that happens, though)
