MySQL does not have functional indexes at this point, however evidently there is a set of patches out there that implement them: http://datacharmer.blogspot.com/2008/09/mysql-virtual-columns.html For that matter, shouldn't functional index be able to make Sheeri's desc index issue go away? -- Rob Wultsch
