The Rackspace Cloud will donate permanent 1GB "cloud server"
instances for development to all the committers on the project. All
of them are 64 bit. Setting up a RightScale script, or equivalent
recipe for setting up Ubuntu and CentOS is preferred, as there is no
public image feature for this product in its current release. 64-bit
servers start at $0.015/hr (yes 1.5 cents/hour ~$11/mo). Anyone who
has any problem affording fees, just see me, and I'll arrange to
waive them. We want you contributing to Drizzle, and don't want test
servers to be a problem for anyone contributing.
We will also provide enough server resources to host the drizzle.org
web site on our cloud as well, and require no advertising. I heard
at the Drizzle Developer Day that having full control of your own
drizzle.org environment without an advertising sponsor would be
preferred over the current arrangement.
We believe that Drizzle is an important piece of the future of cloud
computing, and want to do our part to see that it succeeds.
