Yes, it should just work and yes, Dropwizard is using Jackson internally, for 
example for parsing the configuration files and to serialize/deserialize JSON 
in JAX-RS resources.

Here's the PR which updated Jackson (first 2.11.x, then 2.12.x) for the 
Dropwizard 2.1.x branch:

As you can see in the PR there weren't many changes required. ;-)
