I tried upgrading and got multiple errors.
At that point I abandoned the effort and decided its best wait for dw 2.1.x to 
be out of beta, (and guicy support will be added as well).

Yes, it should just work and yes, Dropwizard is using Jackson internally, for 
example for parsing the configuration files and to serialize/deserialize JSON 
in JAX-RS resources.

Here's the PR which updated Jackson (first 2.11.x, then 2.12.x) for the 
Dropwizard 2.1.x branch:
https://github.com/dropwizard/dropwizard/pull/3229

As you can see in the PR there weren't many changes required. ;-)
