Has anybody explored using DSpace with Wordpress? I would like to have a conversation with developers and users about how this may be best achieved.
Our website, montaguearchive.org, operates under our own rented web server and has both Wordpress and DSpace services integrated within the same server. Our Wordpress is intended for our curated and promotional content, while our DSpace houses and makes available our digital collection. Each of these services were designed for different purposes and I think it is important to explore ways in which a small historic organization may be able to combine the strengths of both. Dspace doesn't seem too friendly for visitors who just wish to browse and be introduced to things. I have had complaints about this. On the other hand, Wordpress is simple and good for producing quick, good looking websites. Do any of you host a 1000 page wordpress site? What do you think of the Wordpress 'Media Library', once it gets big? Wordpress has it's limitations.. Take a look at the links on this page: https://montaguearchive.org/index.php/2021/03/30/hurricane-of-1938/ I am not a professional programmer, but I have hacked enough php code to get these linked pages to produce galleries of content directly from our DSpace PostgreSQL database. I wrote this code about a year ago, so forgot much of what I was doing. Basically, I believe I used a single column CSV file of URIs (for each page) in DSpace and communicated directly within my local server, using CURL, to retrieve DSpace content and populate a gallery page in Wordpress. Those of you who are interested may try this above example now and return to this thread for discussion. I am hoping new ideas, suggestions and solid examples may develop here to expand the idea.
