Hi all,
I am pleased to share an update about the ORCID improvements in DSpace
<https://www.orcidus.lyrasis.org/2024/06/14/lyrasis-partners-with-4science-to-improve-orcid-functionality-in-dspace/>
that have been contributed by 4Science, thanks to grant funding that
Lyrasis received from the ORCID Global Participation Fund. All of the
development work has been completed on the issues that were identified for
this project (see details below). Many thanks to ORCID, 4Science, and the
individuals who voluntarily reviewed the pull requests.
Work is currently underway to update the DSpace wiki documentation to
reflect these improvements, and we will be planning to schedule a webinar
about these improvements and additional considerations related to ORCID in
DSpace soon. I am also working on some additional documentation that
summarizes the different options for using ORCID with DSpace, which I hope
to have ready to share soon. In the meantime, let me know if you have any
questions.
ORCID improvements that are now available:
1. The following bug fixes have been merged/back-ported to DSpace 7.x and
8.x:
- ORCID integration bugs on the ORCID Authorizations page have been
fixed: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/8925
- Author ORCID iDs that are associated with Person Entities are now
displayed on work landing pages next to author names out of the box (and
noted as either authenticated or unauthenticated):
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/9086
- Issues related to versioning of works written to ORCID have been
fixed: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/8662
- When a user selects “Disconnect ORCID” in their DSpace profile, this
now revokes their ORCID access token according to ORCID’s best practices:
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/9088
2. For those who have users that log in to DSpace, code is now available
for 7.x and 8.x (and will be included in DSpace 9) to allow those users to
log in using ORCID, even if their ORCID email address is set to private
(see issue described here: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/9087) –
this code was not merged/back-ported to 7.x and 8.x since it is more
significant than just a bug fix, but if you’d like to implement this fix in
your local instance, code can be found here:
- 7.x: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/9846
- 8.x: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/9847
3. For DSpace 9, all of the above fixes have been merged and will be ready
to use in DSpace 9.
4. Code is also available for including patent and product work types in
the ORCID/DSpace data exchange, however, since these are new work types
that have not been discussed or prioritized yet in the DSpace community,
these will not be merged. However, if you’d like to implement patent and
product work types with ORCID in your local repository, code can be found
here (and also please leave a comment in the Github tickets if you have a
perspective to share):
- 9: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/9853
- 7.x: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/9850
- 8.x: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/9852
Thank you,
Sheila
