Hey Carolyn, I upgraded from 7 to 8, and recently 8 to 9. 8 is much like 7. But 9 is almost perfect and fast (I also migrated to the new server, so can't compare directly). In 9 I switched to runnable jar and found that approach a lot more convenient. Can't remember much trouble installing 9. Probably some misunderstanding with solr cores which was solved pretty fast.
