Generally positive and looking forward to 9.x. The main work I found going from 7.6 to 8.0 was the work to refactor the frontend themes I had. I found it's well documented.
But note the SSR changes in 8.0 - that's much better since it means that the frontend can reach directly to the backend during SSR instead of going to the publicly visible https url. I also saw 7.6 also fail to render pages client side, and was lucky enough for that to be fixed when I upgrade.
