True, there is no reason it has to be "bound" exclusively to the release process. This is why I proposed making it ultimately asynchronous. > That all being said, Mark D, I appreciate your proof of concept work > that we can get the Documentation into Confluence relatively easily. Likewise, excited about this, as I spoke with both you and Brad, I already walked the path of porting a dump of the dspace wiki to confluence using Universal Wiki Converter with some limited success last year, what stopped me moving forward was taking the time to figure out the ideal settings for that conversion that would correct for all the broken linking and odd Mediawiki formating etc. https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugin/details/14575 It would be ideal to see a place to share this experience (Hmm, a Confluence Space?) and have such a porting activity can have some opportunity for feedback. Anyhow, I am very excited to see some resources being thrown at this. Am looking forward to the point you guys bring it out into the community. I'm more motivated to see this happen sooner than later. Mostly because I started working on the porting last summer and got side-tracked. When I finally had a brief amount of time this break to focus on it, the time it took to complete was indeed minimal. I want to see it done and the community moving forward in a new better space. Especially because my time is limited and I don't want to see this still languishing in a couple months. > Let me know if there are any comments/questions/input on any of this. > We can also discuss this more in our Developers Meeting on Weds (though, > again, it'd be best to concentrate on getting 1.6 finished up before we > dig too deep into DocBook vs. Confluence for the longer term). I thank you for your point of view. But like I said, I'm not interested in "stalling" on utilizing this as a tool after finally getting it setup. I intend to continue to utilize the Confluence version for my documentation production and invite anyone seeking an easier manner of creating the documentation to feel free to participate there as well. We can certainly label it "Experimental" until we reach a more consensus. Mark -- Mark R.
