Seems to me that the easiest route would just be to let the local operating 
system tidy things up (your option #2).   I'm of the frame of mind that we 
should avoid creating more configs/settings if we don't really need to.  The 
option #1 you list would likely need some sort of setting, as you wouldn't want 
to always delete old exports when a new export happens (e.g. if one export 
happens and then another happens a minute later, you wouldn't want the first to 
be removed so quickly).

So, all in all, I'd probably vote to go with #2 above.
