The problem I've come up against is that we don't currently index last modified
date or withdrawn/archive status of items when we create lucene indexes.
Although we don't need to assign these sets true handles (just hdl_XXX set
identifiers), I also need to make sure we don't break OAI compliance by not
having a true persistent identifier for the root "collection".
To help prepare for this kind of functionality, and for other useful purposes
(hiding restricted stuff from UIs via DSQuery instead of DSIndexer, for
example), I propose we index some basic object-level metadata like withdrawn
status, archival status, "is readable by anonymous" boolean, and last modified
date.
This will make it possible to generate OAI sets from Lucene indexes.
I've linked this issue to DSCR-12 since Discovery is obviously better suited
for a good implementation, but my "index other stuff from item table, not just
descriptive metadata" proposal would still stand :)"
