Tim Donohue commented on DS-815:
--------------------------------
In terms of a "small, quick fix", the suggested fix (return -1) seems
reasonable enough.
As for the broader suggestions (larger fix, which we may want to fork into a
separate JIRA issue)...
Relating this back to Dublin Core (and specifically the DCMI Metadata Terms),
I'd agree with Mark Diggory here.
If you take a look at 'date' in DCMI, it recommends that all dates should
follow ISO 8601 [W3CDTF], which in turn requires a year at a minimum. Here's
the related references:
* DCMI 'date' : http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-terms/#terms-date
* ISO 8601 [W3CDTF] : http://www.w3.org/TR/NOTE-datetime
In addition, if you look at 'coverage' in DCMI, this term is specifically meant
for date ranges or approximate / named dates. So, as MarkD mentions, likely we
should think about recommending usage of dc.coverage.temporal (perhaps we could
even think about providing an example input-form field which could be easily
enabled?).
* DCMI 'coverage' : http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-terms/#terms-coverage
So, in a way, this broader date issue relates back to other "DC metadata"
tickets in JIRA. Specifically, DS-805 and DS-433
