1) We can put DOIs in dc.identifier and prefix them with the DOI scheme "doi:".
2) We can add DOIs as operable URIs in dc.identifier.uri. That's the way handle are treated in DSpace. For DOIs we should use http://dx.doi.org/<doi> as it can resolve every DOI and is quite well known.
I would prefare the second way, as I think operable URIs are always preferable. I would like to link directly on http://dx.doi.org whenever a DOI is used, as http URIs are the only identifiers supported by a big client base. In both ways we would have to take a substring whenever we want to work with or present the DOI on itsself.
