Changed LDAP config file to enable an netid email suffix. See: http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/User_Management#Urgent_Notice. LDAP logins now have the correct email suffix.
My LDAP config specifies a "mail" attribute, see: http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/User_Management#Example_DSpace_LDAP_config

The mail attribute looks good.
Perhaps a clear warning is needed in the documentation about the email suffix configuration.
It's working for us now though.
