This sounds like a duplicate of DS-945. As mentioned there, the JSPUI seems to act appropriately, but the XMLUI does not.

The basic problem here seems to be that when browsing items by author (ie: a 'second level' browse) any text entered into the 'starts with' text box seems to *filter* these results.
For example, click on Browse->Authors and from these results click on a particular author's name. Say there are 10 items by this author. Now enter some text in the box, and...
