I could not reproduce the error during mvn package with DSpace 4.1.
Apache Maven 2.2.1 (rdebian-8)
Java version: 1.7.0_25
Java home: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre
Default locale: sk_SK, platform encoding: UTF-8
OS name: "linux" version: "3.2.0-4-amd64" arch: "amd64" Family: "unix"
Can you please list your output of "mvn -version"?

After merging the DS-1867, line 124 of the [dspace-source]/pom.xml becomes:
<target name="Encode any UTF-8 chars in [src]/*.properties">
note the '*' character in the name attribute which causes the "mvn package" command fail during the first steps of installation.
the problem is in the target name which contains a * character (invalid as path name). ...
