Hi Elizabeth, DSpace is a community project and thus expects its community members to contribute, e.g. by providing translations, so that the rest of the community can benefit from them. In fact, this is a strong point and the most prominent reason why we and others decided to deploy DSpace and not other software.
What seems to have happened in this case is that although different institututions did translate the interface into Russian for themselves, they didn't contribute their translations back for the benefit of others (and themselves, because others will be able to improve it). There are translations for older versions available in Russian, but not he recent ones: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/I18nSupport#I18nSupport-AvailabletranslationsofMessages.propertiesforJSP-UI What you could do to improve the situation is to communicate with the other Russian repositories that made the translations and convince them that it's for their own benefit to send the translation to us, so that we can distribute it to others. In fact, now's the perfect time to do so, because we're a few days before our 3.0 release. It would be best if you could get the translations, update them for 3.0 and send them to us. Just after release, all the institutions would get this translation automatically. A point to note is that there are 2 prominent places that require translation: JSPUI and XMLUI.
